This month we had an all virtual meeting, but we will be returning to hybrid format for future meetings.
Dustin reported that $150 was donated to the Modern Quilt Guild in memory of a local quilter. Modern Quilt Guild sent it to our chapter to use for a charitable purpose. After discussion at the June meeting, the funds have been allocated to paying for quilting for any quilts that will be donated to the GSAFE Quilt Auction in fall 2022.
Project Linus is still looking for a storage space for their stock of blankets.
The Great WI Quilt Show is scheduled for in-person activities in September. Registration is open now for classes.
Block lotto in August will be monochromatic pinwheels. There were 14 submissions for July blocks, and Alyssa N. is the winner.
Our presenters for the meeting were Jessica Marquez of Miniature Rhino and Porcia Lewis from Urban Asanas in Brooklyn.
Porcia led a guided body scan meditation, focusing breath through different parts of the body, with a special focus on the hands.
Jessica then invited us to think about meditation and mindfulness related to our making and being aware of our body’s needs. She gave us reminders to focus on breath and our five senses, and we did 10 minutes of mindful making together. We discussed our experiences and reflections from that 10 minutes.
Porcia ended the evening with three hand opening exercises/stretches.
