Madison Modern Quilt Guild
June 2020 Meeting
Welcome – We will most likely be a small group tonight. I just want to share some information about where we’re headed this year as a Guild that isn’t able to meet in person and where my limitations are as a leader in quarantine.
Programming – Social sewing will still be happening, albeit over Zoom!
***Emily Forscher is hosting weekly Late Nite Sewing Parties on Friday nights, 6pm-whenever. The meeting code and password will be the same each week. Info is on the Facebook page, and I will post it in the Chat during the meeting as well.
Project Linus – Eileen (unable to attend): “*Most Project Linus donation locations are back in service. The website and Facebook page are updated with that info. However, people are encouraged to check a business’s website or Facebook page for its current operating hours.
*Some organizations have resumed blanket deliveries, others are still paused. NICU’s are in demand. General blanket-making guidelines for our chapter are on this page of our website. The page also has links to download instructions for the NICU blankets and no-sew fleece blankets, which are a great project for children or any non-sewists

*The Linus volunteer who works with the Baraboo area was told that St. Clare’s Hospital is still in need of masks. The contact is Julia Randles,: 608-356-1449, Julia.randles@ssmhealth.com. Check the hospital ‘s website for instructions for its Wisconsin locations.”
Block Lotto – Dustin and Cathy will be back in August with another Block Lotto challenge. Susan Fenton was our “Hot and Cold” winner this month!
State of the Guild –
I personally am unable to take a break from social distancing until there is a vaccine or some assurance I can’t bring COVID-19 home to my family. I don’t know what that would look like at this point. Obviously Blue Bar Quilts is not hosting large gatherings, so that’s not an immediate issue for us anyway. However, I may not be able to conduct meetings for a really long time – well after other folks feel safe attending meetings. It’s something we will need to think about and consider as we move forward.
Schedule for the rest of 2020:
July 9, 2020
Mad Mod member Jini MacAdam will present “Quilted A.F.: To the design wall and back.” (A.F. stands for “absolutely fearlessly.”) Jini is passionate about artistry and approaching quilting as if it were a painting/drawing, and her enthusiasm really shows when she talks about her process!
We had talked about rescheduling the Physical Therapists for this month. They would talk about healthy posture for quilters. I’ll ask Brianna to see if they can do this over Zoom. In my mind that could work really well.
September – Cancelled for Quilt Expo. We had decided not to try meeting so close to Expo. That’s not an issue now obviously, but we don’t have anyone scheduled to present.
October was supposed to be Ugly Fabric Challenge with Gael Boyd. We will ask how this might work over Zoom. Perhaps Rachel May could present in October or November – will ask Brianna. I’ve also been in contact with Made of Honor Quilts who does very detailed graffiti applique.
A survey will be going out over email to gather information from membership about their comfort level returning to meetings.
