Show us your Sewing Space – Linda Orr

After years of sewing in basements and attics, in this house, I chose the room with lots of windows. It’s almost like being outdoors (without the weeds and mosquitos). My sewing machine looks into the front yard with my serger to my right. Behind me is the ironing board (still wanting a topper  to give me more space.)       On the end wall are two closets. One has all the fabric wound on […]

Row by Row Experience

Have you heard? There’s an awesome new way to shop hop! It’s called the Row by Row Experience. Row by Row Experience is a shop hop that began in 2011 with 20 participating quilt shops across the state of New York. Over the past 4 years it has grown so much that this year it will include shops from all 50 states, and several Canadian provinces! Beginning on June 21, 2015, each participating quilt shop will […]

May Block Lotto – Red and White Twin Sisters

OK, I wasn’t able to do the ‘choose your own adventure’ block this month…apologies 🙁 It will come back at some point, though! I was inspired by the simplicity of the Cherry Jubilee ‘show within a show’ at the International Quilt Festival last month in Chicago, so that’s the color palette this month: red and white/ivory. I know I often think of red and white as a more traditional color scheme for quilts, but I […]

March Meeting

Now it seems so long ago…that March meeting! It was our first meeting in our new location….the Whitney Way HyVee Community room.             The previous Charity Committee had kits available for super hero quilts and quilt top kits available for quilting and binding.  The finished quilts are approximately 40″x60″.             Two completed quilts were turned in….                   […]

April Meeting

I don’t know how it can be but…it’s time for the April meeting this Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 6;30 PM in the Whitney Way HyVee Community Room.  Enter through the lefthand door; stairs and the elevator are on the immediate left.  You may bring food upstairs from the HyVee restaurant, deli or food stations.  No outside food , please, as we pay for our meeting space by eating HyVee food.  It is a wonderful […]

April block lotto – scrappy strips, warm and cool

Kristin Gumbinger shared this block idea w/ me shortly before the last meeting. I didn’t have a block yet for April, so it worked perfectly!  You can chose to make scrappy strips in a warm palette (reds, oranges, pinks, golds) or a cool palette (blues, greens, purples).  The block is 18″ finished, so 18.5″ unfinished.  You can make the strips as wide or as narrow as you like, I’d aim for somewhere between 10 and […]
