January 2017 Meeting Recap

Good Evening Mad Mod Quilters!  We had a great January meeting with 46 quilters in attendance – 10 of which were guests!

Mad Mod Quilt Guild Meeting

From our Events Committee:

Our fearless events committee gave us a challenge.  Pantone color of the year!

Members, who wanted to participate in the challenge we’re given a fat quarter to work with. Guidelines:  Create anything you want. Make a tote bag, soft sculpture, quilt, etc. Add other fabrics if you like, but please don’t over dye it to change the color. We’ll present our projects at the March meeting. Kona is interested in seeing photos of our finished projects. Gael will display the projects at Blue Bar Quilts. If this is well received, we’ll do it again next year!

Let’s Take the Bus

The Events committee is considering contracting with a bus for a guild sponsored Shop Hop.  If you’re a great events planner and want to help organize this, email madmodquiltguild@gmail.com

Sew with your Friends

Sew Date at Mill House Quilts is February 25. This is a day to bring your machine and projects and hang out with other quilters to work on projects. You can bring food, order in, or go out for lunch.  RSVP via Facebook of email.  We’re hoping to host a sew day each quarter!

Hey, buddy!

To make it easy for people to integrate into the Mad Modern Quilt Guild, please consider joining the Buddy System! In our Facebook group file “MMQG Quilt Buddies” you can sign up to be a mentor or mentee. Give as much or as little information as you like. If you have a space to host parties, that would be helpful to know as well.  If you’re not on Facebook and are interested in the buddy system, get in touch with us via email.

Blue Bar Quilts

Gael of Blue Bar Quilts says the shop is happening and is currenlt under construction.  Feel free to peek in the window. Address is: 6333 University Ave. Middleton. Anticipated opening is late March/early April.

Charity

Maday is collecting kennel quilts/pet blankets for the Dane County Humane Society. Sizes needed are: 12” x 18” OR 18” x 24”. Completed quilts should be quilted with front, back and batting. This is a perfect project to practice machine quilting.

Maday is also requesting handmade pillowcases to donate to hospitals or the Ronald McDonald House -make a simple rectangular pillowcase.

She also collects toiletries to assemble BFWs-Bags for Women…she is looking for new things like toothbrushes, socks, sanitary napkins, wipes, bars of soap, etc. She is looking for shelters that could use these bags. The Rio Quilt Guild made bags to fill.

Lastly, if you have 12.5” blocks at home that you’re not using, she’ll take them and assemble them for charity quilts.  This items will be collected at our monthly meetings.

Prairie Lakes Quilters

Diana announced the Sun Prairie Quilt Guild moved! They now meeting  at the Colonial Club first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
