August Meeting

August 11, 2016 the Madison Modern Quilt Guild met at HyVee on Whitney Way.

Announcements included a view of the two quilt tops completed at a July sewing day for #Pulse.  Gloria, Catherine, Amy P., Linda, Tracy, Lori M., Shara and Cheryl spent the afternoon piecing rainbow hearts.. Following the Sew Day, Gael basted the quilts, Lori M. quilted them, Diana made the labels.  Trudy and Amy A. took them home from the meeting to bind.  The backing fabric was so kindly donated by the Electric Needle (if you haven’t visited the new shop….GO!)SONY DSC SONY DSC IMG_2582

Gael gave an update on the progress of  Blue Bar Quilts -the shop she is planning to open this fall….or as soon as construction is completed ( don’t we all know how that goes!!!)

The fabric for the Michael Miller Fabric Challenge was distributed (Dayna, Celeste, Heather, Jessica and Rebecca Lidstrom still have fabric to pick up; it will be at the September meeting)  Details are on MQG site; the deadline is November 30.

Door prizes were distributed; first choice always goes to a person who is wearing their handmade name tag.

Gloria gave a presentation “Strategic Use of Scraps”  She has whittled her scraps to a manageable quantity (maybe ‘bull-dozed’ is a better term) and produced some striking quilts in the process!  So can we!!!SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC

There was a lively discussion of the MQG post dealing with derivative quilts and the criteria for submission to Quilt Con.  Probably to be continued.

Show and tell: Guest Jeni shows her Trip Around the World.
