June 2016 Meeting Recap

Welcome to another meeting recap!  This one is for June 2016.

Here are the highlights…

  • Charity quilt project for Quilt Con in Savanah
    • If you are interested in participating please email madmodquiltguild@gmail.com
    • Guild sign up is due by July 30th and the finished quilt needs to be submitted by February 3rd 2017
    • All the details for the project can be found on the Modern Quilt Guild’s blog post on the topic.
  • Mill House grand opening celebration was Jun 9-17
  • Sewcial Lounge going out of business
  • The Lodi Agricultural fair is July 7th – 10th 2016
    • Watch over 100 quilts being judged on Friday morning in the open class building. These quilts will also be on display during the fair.
    • Saturday at 3:30 pm is the quilt turning and story telling show that Trish emcees.
  • New quilt shop coming to town – Blue Bar Quilts!
    • Blue bar quilts has half the money needed to open.
    • Gael has several lines of fabric at her house and will be offering it for sale over the next couple of weeks.
    • She is hoping the store will be open in September. Please look for a crowd source funding opportunity on our Facebook page.
  • Trish showed us her progress assembling the MadMod Quilt Guild Logo banner.  Blocks were created by various madmod members.
  • Book “Improv Handbook for Modern Quilting by Sherry Lynn Wood
    • Linda Orr, our president, shared her progress

Also, we’re participating in #QuiltsforPulse Charity Drive with the Orlando MQG.

We’re meeting to sew together Sunday July 17th | 10am-6pm
Tamarack Club House | 110 S Westfield Rd, Madison, WI 53717

Participants fee is $5.00 to cover the room rental.  You are welcome to bring food or drinks.  A full kitchen is available for our use.  Gloria will bring an iron and portable ironing board to share.
Please bring an extension cord for your sewing machine.  If you are used to using an Ott light, bring one.
We can address questions and details at our July meeting.

 

#QuiltsforPulse Charity Drive details:
  • The Orlando Modern Quilt Guild is collecting quilts and blocks for the victims of the shooting at Pulse nightclub on June 12, and MQG members around the world are invited to participate.
  • The Orlando MQG is asking for a minimum of 102 quilts — one for each survivor, and one for the families of each victim who perished.
  • Rainbow hearts are the design theme, and members are asked to submit either finished quilts (strongly encouraged) or 10-inch blocks with at least one heart.
  • Full details are available on the Modern Quilt Guilds Website.
  • Locally, Jen Mulder of the Electric Needle will be sending a box of quilts in a few weeks for those interested. Check the Facebook page for more details.
