Quilting Land and Water: Textile artist Leah Evans who will talk about her process and show us her work. Her quilted wall hangings consist of layers of the following techniques: appliqué, reverse appliqué, piecing, natural and synthetic dyeing, needle-felting, hand printing, and a variety of embroidery stitches. By incorporating vintage kimonos, upholstery remnants, and many other secondhand materials, the works are in keeping with the quilt tradition of recycling. Leah’s current thematic focus is the ways in which people impact their environment and, in turn, how the environment affects people. Her pieces are influenced by aerial photography, maps, and satellite imagery, but are not always based on specific places.

Demo Day! We will learn new skills and brush up on old ones during a series of demos by people especially adept at the techniques they’ll be sharing.

Mad Mod member Jini MacAdam will present “Quilted A.F.: To the design wall and back.” (A.F. stands for “absolutely fearlessly.”) Jini is passionate about artistry and approaching quilting as if it were a painting/drawing, and her enthusiasm really shows when she talks about her process!

6 – 8 pm
Hand Sewing Happy Hours: Work on portable projects and get to know other guild members. Up to 15 people per happy hour. Mad Mod will host these throughout the year at different dates, locations, and times to fit different schedules. All kids of hand work welcome! (Including crochet, knitting, applique, embroidery, binding, needle felting, etc.)
These are free events, but attendees may buy their own drinks and snacks.
