May block lotto – no-color free-form log cabin-ish

Welcome to the blog post for the next block lotto – it was supposed to be for April but I forgot, and I almost forgot again for May. But here it is! We’re doing no-color blocks this time, meaning black and white with no color. Gray is OK, but not brown. Also, be inspired by a log cabin block, but do whatever you want with that. March 2019 block lotto – bright straight strings

This month for block lotto we’re going a little more free-form. I want you to take all the brightly colored fabrics from your string stash that are 8.5″ or longer and sew them together into squares. You see a lot of string blocks sewn on the diagonal, but let’s do these on the square, and not wonky but nicely trimmed into straight strips. Combine skinny strips and chubby strips, lots or just a few, however […]

February block lotto – whirlwind

The block lotto for our February 14, 2019 meeting will be a whirlwind block. And the best part of this tutorial? It makes 2 blocks! So there isn’t really a background, because that fabric becomes the feature in the second block. Just pick two that work together 🙂 Use this tutorial from SewCanShe for the whirlwind block that will finish 12″ (12.5″ unfinished). And since Pantone just announced that the color of the year for […]
