September Block Lotto – Modern D9P

General guidelines for Quilt Block Lotto: 1. Make one quilt block (or more) following the pattern and color scheme outlined in this post. For every block you make and bring to that month’s meeting, you will get one entry in the lotto. If you are unable to attend the meeting or forget your block on meeting day, but really want to participate in the lotto, you can still enter your block but you must be […]

August Block Lotto – Stashbuster

This lotto block has a nifty tutorial here: http://www.littlemissshabby.com/2010/04/stashbuster-block-2-tutorial/ Colors are solid slate/dark gray and the rest is anything goes (just try to mix it up as much as possible with a wide variety of colors, both brights and lights, warm and cool, etc.). Great block for using up some scraps! You can construct it as shown with two gray ‘borders’ and the rest colored squares or change it up and do two colored square ‘borders’ […]

July Quilt Block Lotto – Boomerang!

This month’s lotto block is a paper piecing pattern and tutorial provided by Trina Peterson using a nice vintage color palette supplied by Wendy Franczak…thanks, ladies!  If you’ve never tried the paper piecing technique (or maybe never even heard of it!), this one is about as simple as it gets…you can do this! You’ll learn the basics of putting together a block, and maybe even do more than one…who knows, you might just feel empowered […]

June block lotto

Happy June, warm days, summer is here!  No correlation to this month’s color palette, necessarily, I just liked the way everything played together so well in this photo 🙂  Mustard, eggplant, dark navy, and teal. For the block design you get your choice of two, each one a negative of other.  Or, you can do both!  You can even cut and sew and press the 16 smaller square pieces and decide later which way you prefer, because […]

May Block Lotto – Red and White Twin Sisters

OK, I wasn’t able to do the ‘choose your own adventure’ block this month…apologies 🙁 It will come back at some point, though! I was inspired by the simplicity of the Cherry Jubilee ‘show within a show’ at the International Quilt Festival last month in Chicago, so that’s the color palette this month: red and white/ivory. I know I often think of red and white as a more traditional color scheme for quilts, but I […]

April block lotto – scrappy strips, warm and cool

Kristin Gumbinger shared this block idea w/ me shortly before the last meeting. I didn’t have a block yet for April, so it worked perfectly!  You can chose to make scrappy strips in a warm palette (reds, oranges, pinks, golds) or a cool palette (blues, greens, purples).  The block is 18″ finished, so 18.5″ unfinished.  You can make the strips as wide or as narrow as you like, I’d aim for somewhere between 10 and […]
